A New Day

Tim Cantor, 2002

Yesterday broke the chain

The chain that held me barely sane

I lost my way and I lost something new

Like dark dust to you

Who cares my heart like glass to come crashing through

Into dark dusk―with me feeling sorry

For myself

For who

Cries to no one

Life can change in the night sky

With one single blink of one single eye

As for myself

For who

Cries away

I look through the moon, through sky, through the murk and the haze

Through the skin of my own

And my own selfish grey

I see the sun through my blood, held to the light

The blush, the glow, the teal ocean spray

I look through my hand, my skin, to my changeable way

I look to the change

Of a new able day
